Welcome!

Back in 2008 we embarked on a 1 year journey to explore South East Asia and a little of South America. That year away sparked a love for travel, delicious food and experiencing different cultures.

After 3 years in NZ we are ready for another adventure. The long term plan is to move to Australia but since we are packing and selling off stuff then why not move to Bangkok first.

A week in Jakarta...

It has been great to be in a big city. Everything is so much more fast paced the streets, the restaurants, the rain and even the internet. It's been good to be able walk down the street and been able to find everything you need.

The highlights of our time here include:

* Exploring the old city of Jakarta on foot - seeing all the old buildings (not going to all the museums - there are more than 30 but spending the money we saved on entry fees on an expensive drink at Cafe Batavia - an old refurbished 1930's looking Cafe).

* Taking the extra long lift ride to the top of Indonesia's National Monument and seeing the awesome view of Jakarta city.

* Going to visit Nic's sponsored child and her family.

* Witnessing the huge downpours of rain that flood the streets within minutes. Then looking an hour later and there is blue sky and no water in the street at all.

* Going to the local hospital and being seen, prescribed medication and out of the hospital within 30minutes of arriving. (No need to panic Kristal just has a minor ear infection)

* Exploring the many malls Jakarta has and feeling out of place in the very fancy Plaza Indonesia Mall but being treated like rich people even though we were dressed scruffily.

Tomorrow we are heading to Indonesia's largest island - Sumatra. Our first stop is Bandar Lampung near Mount Krakatau Volcano.

Hey hey,
Looks like you are having fun! Love all the photos - not so sure about your videoing skills though.Life seems so boring once you see a little of what you guys are doing.. I may be getting itchy feet! Korea and japan in a few months seems too far away.
Anyways - keep up the good work & keep safe - looks like a jungle over there!
Laters guys, Ben and Megs.
